The Betrayal of Belief
When I was a young calf, I always asked my parents the same question,
"Are humans bad?", to which they once replied,
"They are not bad, it all depends on the way you trust them."
These memories could never be forgotten. I still remember the day when Pa told me that we elephants must be brave. Braver than humans, who kill our species for their greed.
"Momma, are you awake?"
That little voice called me out of my remnicising moments. It took me a second to realise, that that sound came from my tummy. I feel my boy will be out soon, but I don't know which day. Anyway, it relives me from the pain. So spending time with that little one shouldn't be a problem, right?
"Momma I can't sleep. What do you see out there? I can't see anything."
"Fine, I will tell you what I can see. Over here, there are many stars which you will see really soon. Also, there are many people here. There is a beautiful river and near it, there are plenty of trees. God has definitely made a beautiful world for us."
"When will I see all of this?"
"Once you are out of mommy's tummy. Now sleep. We will go on an adventure tomorrow, alright?"
And with that, my little one finally dozed off.
Talking about humans, Ma and Pa both told me to stay away from them. I don't think they are bad. About a year ago, I met a family that came to visit us. It was a family of four. The man seemed very kind to us. He and his family had come to visit us. I still remember, once there was a mouse that approached me. I was so close to running away. That man took a stone and killed the tiny mouse. Since that day, I have held a great regard for humans.
The next day, baby and I had set out for an adventure as promised. No sooner had we reached the river, than I met a farmer with a fruit in his hand. He seemed to be signalling me to take it from him. That fruit was my boy's favourite. He always told me how crazy it tastes and that he loved it. I took a big bite. This time, it had a metallic taste. I don't know what happened next. It felt like my tummy was expanding and it started to black out...
I thought I could see my baby at last.
I finally ended up seeing my baby boy for the first time. And hey, I even saw that man (the one who saved me from that tiny mouse, all those years ago).
It just took me a minute to realise that we weren't on the ground anymore. My baby, I, and even that man, had white wings, like that of an angel. When I looked back at the Earth, I only saw a splatter of red, for I then realised, that I had just been killed.....
